BYD has once again pushed the boundaries of luxury and power in the automotive world with the introduction of the Yangwang U8L. This massive SUV, aptly nicknamed the “Technology Monster,” is designed to set new standards in both technical prowess and passenger comfort. The base price of the car is around 1.28 million yuan (US$179,800), indicating that its target market is the special enthusiasts and collectors.
Amazing power in the stature of a giant
The U8L combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with four electric motors. The result is a staggering output of 1,180 horsepower and 1,520 Nm of torque, figures that are unattainable even for many supercars. The giant SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, creating a fascinating contrast between the car's heavy weight and its impressive agility.
Range and battery technology
BYD has equipped the U8L with a 55.53 kWh Blade Battery. This battery provides a range of 200 km in pure electric mode, but in extended hybrid mode (EREV), the total range of the car reaches an impressive 1,160 km. One of the attractive features is the fast charging capability, which can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in just 13.5 minutes. The 90-liter fuel tank also allows for long trips without worries.
Luxurious and smart cabin
Inside, the U8L is more like a moving luxury saloon. The interior design includes:
High-definition curved OLED display
Augmented reality head-up display
Front passenger display and rear-row monitors
Second-row executive seats with massagers, footrests, a small table and wireless charging
These features, along with 128-color ambient lighting and smart glass, convey a complete sense of modern luxury to passengers.
Advanced driving technologies
The semi-autonomous driving system "God's Eye" along with the e4 platform and the DiSus-P body control system are among the most prominent safety and control features of the car. A set of sensors including lidar, millimeter wave radars, ultrasonic cameras and infrared cameras provide visibility and control in difficult weather conditions such as fog or darkness at night.
Gigantic dimensions, extraordinary space
The dimensions of the Yangwang U8L include a length of 5.4 meters, a width of 2.05 meters and a height of 1.92 meters. The wheelbase of 3.25 meters creates a very large interior space that allows six people to sit in maximum comfort. The legroom in the second row reaches 280 mm at its maximum, and the trunk, with a volume of 1,115 liters, fully covers the needs of families or long trips.
Cabin silence during travel
Despite its incredible power, BYD claims that the cabin noise level is less than 64.6 decibels at 120 km/h, meaning passengers will have a quiet and enjoyable experience even at high speeds.
