Chery has recently introduced the new Tiggo 9 family in China, which includes three different models: the 2025 version, the Tiggo 9X and the C-DM plug-in hybrid model. The move is part of Chery’s strategy to increase product diversity and meet the needs of customers who want both gasoline vehicles and fuel-efficient hybrid options.
The regular Tiggo 9, which is due for release in 2025, has no significant changes in appearance compared to the previous version and is equipped with more improved features. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 192 kW and 400 Nm of torque, along with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or an 8-speed automatic, continues to form the core of the car's powertrain. The interior design is also maintained with a 24.6-inch dual screen, an augmented reality head-up display and the ability to configure for seven passengers.
On the other hand, the C-DM plug-in hybrid version combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a front-mounted electric motor, which allows for a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of around 8.8 seconds. The 19.43 kWh battery provides an all-electric range of up to 106 km and a combined range of over 1,400 km. It can also be charged quickly from 30 to 80 percent in 25 minutes, and takes around three and a half hours with household electricity.
The other model, the Tiggo 9X, distinguishes itself from the standard version with more exterior changes and a redesigned cabin. The front and rear bumpers and lights have changed, and the interior has taken on a more modern and minimalist look. The floating display, hidden air vents, and the new design of the center console are among the important differences in the cabin. This model, in higher trim levels, even uses a Snapdragon chip and advanced driver assistance systems that enable semi-autonomous driving on the highway and smart parking.
All three models are offered in a similar price range. The Tiggo 9X is the cheapest at around $20,700, the regular Tiggo 9 costs around $21,500, and the C-DM plug-in hybrid version is at the top with a price tag of $23,300.
